Art Georgies

Art Georgies is the successful story of the team of artists who, through innovation and professionalism, have reinvented the creation process of the old byzantine mosaic and of the stained glass by patenting some new original materials.

Camelia and Virgil Moraru have had since the beginning a mutual passion for art and for anything that is linked to beauty. In 1992, when they started their journey in the field of the mosaic and artistic stained glass, they didn’t imagine the fact that they would go on such a long path. However, just as art gives birth to art, their pieces of art have turned into symbols able to transmit a great and profound emotion. It is with modesty, inspiration, innovation, with a great experience and with bold ideas and projects that they have created the most powerful and respected Romanian brand in the field of mosaic art and stained glass, the “Art Georgies” brand.

Being in a continuous innovation, the work techniques of Art Georgies combines materials such as fused glass mass by double or triple fusion, with manually painted embossed details, with classic Venetian mosaics (Orsoni) and double glazed mosaic – produced and patented by Art Georgies.

For over 15 years, Art Georgies is the unquestionable equivalent of originality, quality and flawless execution in the exclusivist domain of the stained glass, mosaic and marble pavements. The permanent innovation through patented work techniques and the passion for beauty have brought the national and international appreciation such as four gold medals at the Intyernational Salons of Inventions from Brussels, Moscow, Geneva, and Iasi. Behind the Art Georgies brand there is a vast experience in the artistic work. This experience is the result of the passion with which each project is delivered and also of the contribution of our artists who can be very proud of their impressive work portfolio.

The Art Georgies Collection is renewed every day with unique works of art which arrive in front of you after hours of meticulous painstaking work of a dedicated team including over 200 painters, graphic designers, draughts men, iconographers and mosaic artists whose talent and devotion are reflected in the remarkable creations which decorate and embellish galleries of art, famous churches and cathedrals all over the world, but also private houses and hotels where their artistic value brings a touch of style and elegance. Besides those ten thousands of square meters of mosaic which embellishes a growing number of worshipping places from Romania, Art Georgies has also made extensive works in Greece, Italy, Republic of Moldova, Scotland and Austria.

Any idea can be artistically interpreted by our experts and afterwards there is the possibility of custom execution under your order of interior or exterior design project in the Art Georgies style.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The stained glass is an art style which combines utility with beauty. The painted glass pieces are placed symmetrically and asymmetrically; they are mounted through the lead networks both for windows and for doors.

The interest in stained glass has brought what we call today “a new golden era of the glass”. The new houses are completed with spectacular glass entrances which are also used for windows and lightning systems (Tiffany lampshades) while the artists create and develop unique shapes and styles.

The word is derived from the French language “vitrái” and it refers to the windows made up of colored glass pieces, mounted in a metal framework. Around the year 1100 the stained glass technique was described by monk Teophilus. Moreover, until the 18th century the stained glass was found especially in the gothic style and is strictly linked to the construction of churches.

In the western part of Europe the churches and especially the catholic ones have benefited from extraordinary stained glasses painted 1000 years ago whereas the churches from the eastern side of Europe, generally more modest in dimensions, have adopted this kind of partition between the interior and the crowded and noisy exterior using stained glass only later on when they noticed a resurgence of this type of art, especially at the end of the 20th century – the beginning of the 21st century.

Although the lead mounting was used at the beginning, the works of Luois Comfort Tiffany (the end of the 21th century) replaced the lead with the copper foil, which permitted the execution of some complicated cuts and the disposal of the glass in multiple layers.

The entire beauty of the painted glass chromatically boosted by light was transferred from the ecclesiastic area to the profane one, thereby increasing the value of the residential interiors.

Until recently the stained glass seemed to be compatible only with the sumptuous space linked to a noble past. However, the technique and artistic evolution through which Art Georgies has manifested itself made possible the approach of some classic or modern themes which can be exploited in any kind of interior, starting from the decoration of a lamp, of a mirror frame, of a structure which divides two interest spaces in an apartment house, lightning devices, decorative insertions at the floor level or ceiling or even the railing of a staircase.

ABOUT STAINED GLASS

The mosaic, as a decorative piece of work, represents an artistic blend between some marble elements (tessere), granite, glass etc. of different colours held together through a binder such as mortar and mastic.

We distinguish two great categories of mosaics: pavement mosaics and mural mosaics. In the 5th and 6th centuries B.C., the Greeks were the ones who developed and perfected the mosaic technique, the most beautiful pavement still being considered the one from Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great. It is not by coincidence that the word “mosaic” is derived from the Greek work “mouseion” although the Romans were those who brought the pavement to the level of art. We can find remarkably well-crafted pavements with a fine picture aspect inside private villas as well as in public spaces, pavements which illustrate daily scenes, landscapes, hunting scenes and mythological figures.

In terms of the mural mosaic, it reached the artistic apogee through the embellishment of the Christian Churches’ walls and, therefore, we can mention the Saint Sofia Cathedral of Constantinople. A direct influence of the Constantinople’s picture can be found in the Saint Maria Maggiore Church’ mosaics or in the decorated mausoleum of the Galla Placidia in Ravenna.

In the modern age the Art Nouveau brings into focus the art of mosaic and it is worth mentioning the unique style of Gaudi which can be admired in Guell Park in Barcelona or in La Sagrada Familia Cathedral.

Art Georgies has developed the mosaic techniques using the junctions of the double glazed glass mosaic.
